How much do lessons cost?

  • Rates are offered at a DSA discount at $45 per hour and students can opt to take 30-minute, 45-minute or 60-minute lessons depending on your level of study, finances, and voice teacher's discretion.
  •  Each high-school student is required to take 15 lessons per semester.
  •  If any student has financial difficulty paying for lessons, there are departmental scholarships available.  Please contact Scott Shively or Robert Styron for more information.
Your vocal lesson grade is a part of your total grade in Vocal each semester.  This grade is derived by the Private Voice Study Evaluation Form, which I have included a link for you to download below.

There is also great deal of information about Juries, Auditions, Master Classes, Repertoire Lists, etc. in the DSA Vocal Handbook.  Please make sure that you read it very carefully to understand all of your requirements and expectations regarding vocal lessons.

DSA Policies and Procedures

As  most know, all HS students are required to be enrolled in private voice lessons.  Though we prefer that you study on campus with one of our resident artists, you may opt to study off campus with a qualified voice teacher who has classical training (at least a Bachelors degree in music) and that is well-versed in at least classical (English and foreign art songs) and musical theater repertoire.
Because the new school schedule is not easily allowing students to have free periods, students may have the option of taking lessons during lunch, major period, and after school.  If you are a continuing student please contact your teacher as soon as possible to reserve a time according to both of your schedules.  Their contact is listed on this page.
Students must take at least 15 lessons per semester.  Payment schedules can be worked out directly with your student's voice teacher.  Rates are $45 per hour and students can opt to take 30-minute, 45-minute or 60-minute lessons depending on your level of study, finances, and voice teacher's discretion.
If any student has financial difficulty paying for lessons, there are departmental scholarships available.  Please do not hesitate to contact the directors for more information.
